Early during CES 2012, Wilson Electronics announced a new mobile phone signal booster heading to Verizon during the second quarter in 2012. The smartphone aid, based on its primary selling point, is appropriately named the Sleek 4G-V. The V stands for Verizon, of course. No information is available for an extended, international distribution plan as yet, but US users on the Verizon network can enjoy a few perks with this new mobile phone.
Overview
Both Wilson Electronics (WE) and Verizon stressed speed, speed, speed and reliable signal strenght, regardless of the user’s geographical location. The extended frequency bands allow the smartphone to latch onto whatever band is available, which drastically reduces drop call occurances and enhances signal quality.
If users do find themselves in a low-signal area, the vendor notes that the signal booster can be strapped [securely] to the car roof for additional connectivity. Thankfully, it’s Bluetooth-enabled, so you can still make calls via the voice dial option and take incoming calls from the handset inside your car.
Specifications
MobilePhones.org.uk staff try our best to find accurate information on your behalf, but the information provided may not be current or accurate. Whenever possible, we mention if its based on rumours or unofficial information.
There is little information available on data categories we track, simply because this is not a mobile phone but an optional accessory. So instead of providing minimal specifications, this is precisely the specs information provided in the press release and on WE’s product website that match:
[Connectivity:] Frequency: 824-894 MHz / 1850-1990 MHz /746 – 757 MHz / 776 – 787 MHz [2G, 3G, 4G, LTE] [Ed: WiFi enabled.]
[Processor speed ?] 700 Mhz
The Wilson Electronics’ press release noted:
“…fewer dropped connections and no-service ‘dead zones,’ faster data transfer rates and improved battery life for wireless devices.”
Wilson also states that the antenna is up to 20 times stronger than standard mobile phone antennas, which helps back up their claim to stronger signals and fewer dropped calls.
Both WE and Verizon stress that the multiplicity of 2G through 4G frequency bands and the booster feature aid voice calls, text messaging and data transfer on the Internet. The full range of available-generation frequency bands allow for differing maximum speeds due to a wide array of influences.
Is this going to be a worthwhile device? Perhaps, if users are in remote areas, often have bad weather or travel a lot. The mobile phone to which the device is enabled must be a 4G LTE-capable phone or it won’t ever see those speeds. The device will, however, boost 2G and 3G signals, so any compatible mobile phone in a 2G or 3G network should still benefit from the Sleek 4G-V, available in the second quarter from Verizon.
