If you are like most people, you have a holiday gift Wish List. It’s okay. Your age doesn’t matter. You can admit it. Either fortunately or unfortunately, the following mobile phone-related items probably won’t be found under the tree this year, all wrapped up nicely in glitz and glamour. They probably won’t be wrapped in anything except imaginative wishful thinking.
Lamborghini 8800 Sirocco
If you can’t afford to buy a handset for a few hundred pounds, the Lamborghini 8800 Sirocco from Nokia would definitely been beyond your budget. There were only 500 of these models made, and they all undoubtedly were sold to the world’s Rich and Famous. When first advertised, Nokia didn’t even list a price, proving the old adage, “If you have to ask, you can’t afford it.”
And by the way, they’re not sold anymore; it was a Special Edition upgrade of a Nokia 8800 Sirroco, expensive enough, with a fancied case and the Lamborghini logo, similar to the Aston Martin Special Edition that’s also no longer sold. If you can find one, perhaps the Gold Edition Nokia 8800 mobile phone might suffice if you’re desperate. It cost only £1,459 (US $2700) in 2007.
Vertu Signature Cobra
If neither of those suit your high-street standards, fear not. I’m sure you can afford the hunt for a Vertu Signature Cobra. The top scale model featured a jewel-encrusted serpent curled along the edges from side to side. In a lower corner, a white diamond stood out from the serpent-scale rubies. Price tag in 2007: £167,567 (US $310,000). In a pinch, you could console yourself with the discounted model with no rubies: It sold for a mere £62,162 or US $115,000. Don’t worry. You can always tell people the rubies fell away.
But that’s not the world’s most expensive mobile phone.
World Record for Most Expensive Mobile Phone
Sorry, it’s not quite that easy. You’ll have to work just a little harder for it than that.
As of today, the most expensive mobiles in the world have included
- Motorola V220 Special Edition – Price US$ 51,800
- Vertu Diamond – Price US $88,000
- Nokia 8800 Arte with pink diamonds – Price US $134,000
- Peter Aloisson’s iPhone Princess Plus – Price US $176,400
- Sony Ericsson Black Diamond – Price US $300,000
- Vertu Signature Cobra – Price US $310,000
- The Diamond Crypto Smartphone – Price US $1,300,000
- GoldVish ‘Le Million’ Piece Unique – Price US $1,300,000
…and
- iPhone 3G Kings Button – Price US $2,411,111.
But that’s still not the first place-holder in the Guiness Book of World Records. That particular distinction is owned by:
Goldstriker iPhone 3GS Supreme whose retail value is listed at a paltry
US $3,200,000
I’ll take two, please. They’re small.
