Android video streamers, cry no more: The Hulu+ or Hulu Plus Android app has been hacked to operate on almost any Android mobile phone.
Hulu Plus is a video streaming service, very similar to the industry leader of Netflix. To watch the paid subscription service on your mobile phone, you need an app, which was available on the Android Market for some time. Potential users were saddened when their smartphones and tablets weren’t on the list of compatible devices on the Market.
“Limitations? Did someone say programme limitations?”
With perked ear, Vgeezy was challenged and create a hack to the app that does not need a root. He says the creation is compatible with
“most Android phones,”
…although we cannot get clarification if ICS is included in that generalization.
The app does not bypass the need for a paid subscription with Hulu, but it does give full access to the free previews. The app does work in streaming films in the landscape mode, which grants an orientation closer to the theatre screen.
Vgeezy warns, however, that if you have an ad-block programme, you must disengage it to view films properly. If you don’t disable it first, you would waste bandwidth because the images and sound are prohibited by the block. You can always re-engage the ad blocker when you are finished, however.
The complete list of mobile phones and tablets that are compatible to not only the original app but also the hacked version is quite long. To see the official list, read the Android Market description. For other models, Vgeezy has responded to user feedback quite closely and continues to adapt the hack as problems are listed on the XDA Developer’s forum entry.
As well as Vgeezy has adapted the original app, he does warn that this is an unofficial product: Use at your own risk.
