While we’ve only recently had rumours from LG of new Optimus phones, Thursday so the actual announcement of the new F5 and F7 smartphones finally take place. While many expected the announcement to take place at the upcoming Mobile World Conference, LG obviously got impatient of waiting and wanted to show off it’s new devices prior to letting the world get its first hands on experience at MWC 2013.
For the hardcore high-end smartphone addict the devices probably won’t be too impressive, but that’s because their aimed more at the mid-market with specs to match. If you’re wanting to avoid breaking the bank or you simply use your smartphone for browsing, mapping, calling and texting rather than advanced gameplay and other processor intensive tasks then these new LG phones could be your perfect choice.
Just a week ago LG announced the Optimus L7 2, Optimus L5 2 and Optimus L3 2, but they’ve now pulled two more upcoming handsets from up their sleeves all of which will feature LG’s QSlide technology that allows two apps to share the same screen simultaneously.
The Optimus F7 will feature a dual core professor with 1.5GHz, 8GB of internal storage, a 4.7 inch HD screen (312 pixels per inch) with in plane switching technology, 2GB of RAM as well as two cameras, the rear one being 8 megapixels and the forward facing one 1.3 megapixels. Not a bad spec sheet for a mid range phone, although the processor is a little slow and anyone into gaming or watching video on their phone might find the internal storage a little limiting, although the phone has a microSD slot allowing you to expand the memory capacity. The phone will ship with Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2.
The Optimus F5, for those of us not versed in LG’s model naming system, is the next model down the chain and thus is both slightly smaller and has less impressive specs, although promises to be cheaper and might pull in more sales. The 4.3 inch screen despite being smaller is plenty big enough for most users, after all the iPhone 4S only has a 3.5 inch screen and the latest iPhone 5 is also smaller at just 4 inches. The LG Optimus F5 also has the same RAM, front camera and internal storage specs as the F7, a slightly smaller battery, a 5 megapixel rear camera and a 1.2GHz processor.
If these phones look good upgrades to you then they should be shipping the UK and other parts of Europe in the second quarter of 2013, with the Optimus F5 coming out prior to the F7. For once those of us annoyed at having to wait until after North America gets their smartphones will be happy that LG have announced these will come to Europe before they enter the American market.
Both phones are 4G LTE devices meaning that you can take advantage of the upcoming 4G rollout with these devices, or if you’re with EE who already offer 4G is some locations you can start enjoying super fast mobile download speeds now if you’re willing to pay the high network fees for this.
