We have lots to pass along in today’s Mobile News, so let’s not waste time, effort and space by sneak preview phrases.
Steve Jobs Action Figure Canned
Succumbing to pressure from Apple attorneys and family members, Hong Kong-based In Icons has scrapped its plan that commemorates the computer icon, Steve Jobs, in an action figure.
The cancellation explanation seems a bit vague but hints at copyrights violations and lawsuits. The formal statement from In Icons declared
“…consideration for the family.”
However, one might wonder what copyright violations would be incurred from a doll of a public figure when photographs of public figures are sold and published every day.
Apple E-Book Software Program Forthcoming
In Apple’s media event that is reported to centre on education, Apple has announced it will introduce GarbageBand, the interactive software program that will produce iBook-compatible e-books for sale on iTunes. Apple’s focus will be on the production of low-cost, electronic textbooks. Hopefully, none will violate copyrights laws.
Whether it will curb the poorly-sourced, public domain-copied content that floods iTunes has yet to be seen.
Adobe Flash 11/Air Update Cures ICS Kinks
Users of mobile phones that bear ICS have complained about a green tint to the screen during the viewing of some videos. Adobe promised that it would correct some glitches in its mobile Flash player, and the updates on the Adobe Flash 11 and Adobe Air program should take care of many of them.
Don’t forget to update your smartphones with these updates: Security issues are also resolved.
Energy-Efficient Chargers Become Mandatory
We periodically scan for cool accessories and have featured some solar chargers that help save costs and the planet: We think they’re just brilliant. Residents, businesses and visitors to California, USA, are well familiar with energy efficiency statutes: California was the first state in the country to prohibit idling of engines beyond five minutes, for example.
Now, California is requiring manufacturers of goods sold in California to bundle new rechargeable appliances with energy-efficient chargers. The statute that will go into effect on 1 February 2012 is aimed at reducing the 13 percent of utility bills that is credited to recharging mobile devices.
Unfortunately, the “green” energy devices often cost more, and whilst California could realise an additional $300,000 in its coffers each year, the consumer pays more at the register.
