mobile phones on contract - Bad Credit? No problem!

Today’s Mobile News starts with a leaked release date, Xperia navigation enhancements, and loan collateral.

Motorola Droid Razr Maxx Release

Thanks to a leak and some very high-tech investigative work – we looked on Motorola’s website, it’s confirmed that the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx is to be released on 26 January. Whilst unofficial, the line reading

“launch on all channels on January 26”

from a leaked Verizon employee screen print pretty well seals the deal. Yes, be sure to allow for unexpected delays or other release dates, for the sneaked information is not official.

Sony Xperias to add GLONA

To the Russians, GLONASS is the satellite navigation system. Sony is incorporating the GLONASS system into several Xperia models to supplement the GPS system on-board.

Between the 31 satellites of the GPS system and the 24 of GLONASS, lock on time will be faster, structural impedances will be minimised and locations spotted more accurately.

The Xperia Ion and the Xperia S will have both GPS and GLONASS operational when those models are released, and current Xperia models that have the support already on board include the Arc, Arc S, Ray, Neo, Pro, PLAY and Active, as well as the Sony Live with Walkman.

Kodak Patent Collateral Held?

Apple and Kodak have been in dispute over certain patents, and Apple has asked a judge to prohibit Kodak from using one of its main patents, which is under dispute, as collateral for refinancing loans after the film company’s bankruptcy. Kodak is seeking $950 million in loans to go into effect after the bankruptcy filing. An inability to use what Kodak labels its 216 patent would severely undermine collateral value.

Kodak is also suing RIM, HTC, Fujifilm and Samsung over another patent they call 218 patent. RIM proclaims its ownership of the process or procedure involved in Kodak’s claim and states it is ready to go into court today, but Kodak asked the court to delay the proceedings until August.
