Highlights
- Brilliant 4 inch display
- Available in a range of bright colours
- Fast performance
- Works with 4G LTE
The iPhone 5C is Apple’s newest addition to the iPhone range, coming as somewhat of a surprise when announced. The phone has high specifications, comes in a variety of bright colours, and is cheaper than the iPhone 5S. It’s a great all round phone, and the polycarbonate plastic casing makes it a better option than the iPhone 5S for those who are prone to dropping their phones, such as teenagers.
Display
The iPhone 5C has an amazing ‘Retina’ display which is 4 inches in diameter. Everything looks crystal clear, and you won’t be able to see any pixels. Viewing angles are excellent; there’s a brilliant 800:1 contrast ratio and the brightness is superb. The resolution comes in at 326 pixels per inch thanks to a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels. You don’t have to worry about fingerprint smudges either as there’s a fingerprint-resistant coating.
Performance
Despite being priced lower than the iPhone 5S the 5C still packs a punch when it comes to performance. The phone is effectively a repackaged iPhone 5, which, as any owner will tell you, has amazing performance and can run all the latest 3D games without any performance issues. The iPhone 5C isn’t quite as fast as the 5S as it still runs on an A6 32 bit processor rather than the new A7 64 bit version, but it will be fast enough for almost any purpose.
Camera
The 8 megapixel camera in the iPhone 5C is identical to that of the iPhone 5 and produces amazing photos. It has a flash which can also be used as a torch, and it can take high definition video. There’s also a forward-facing camera that produces HD video, ideal for video chatting with friends using FaceTime.
Battery Life
The iPhone 5C has a good battery life, although like almost every smartphone it’s best to charge it up every night. Apple claims you will be able to call a friend or browse the internet for ten hours before the battery needs a charge, or even listen to music for forty hours. While not in use the phone will survive on standby for 250 hours without needing a charge.
Connectivity
The iPhone 5C connects to the widest range of 4G LTE bands of any phone currently available, meaning that it is a great phone for those who regularly travel. Naturally 3G is also included for those who aren’t on a 4G contract. There’s both WiFi and Bluetooth included for connecting to home networks and accessories. Plus the phone comes with a GPS chip for location services. The phone connects to a computer using the Apple made USB cable which is also used for charging the phone from the plug which comes with the phone.
Extras and Software
The iPhone 5C comes with the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 7. This is arguably the best phone operating system available and is simple to use yet incredibly powerful. There’s many built in apps including a great mapping app with 3D visuals of cities, a movie editor, and more. The app store available for iOS 7 offers many more apps to download including Google Maps and the best smartphones games available.
The phone is more colourful than other iPhones and even most other smartphones, so you should choose a colour that matches your personality. The colour you opt for will also give you exclusive wallpapers in the same colour on the phone. You’ll also get all the great iPhone features such as Siri voice recognition, iTunes for music and a full suite of productivity apps.
