On the look out for a new smartphone and want something that feels fresh? Why not consider the new Black Edition Samsung Galaxy S4 or ┬áSamsung Galaxy S4 Mini. Samsung’s announcement of these two new phones will help renew interest in the S4, which was by far the most popular phone in 2013. While most have been looking forward to the launch of a new Samsung Galaxy S5, this still seems a few months away and those with contracts that are expiring can benefit from a refreshed look on a still excellent phone thanks to Samsung’s latest announcement.

The new design is reminiscent of the new Samsung Galaxy Note III. The black plate of the phone uses a faux black leather appearance complete with stitches to give the phone a greater sophistication than previous editions of the Samsung Galaxy S4. It also allows the phone to more seamlessly blend with the front of the device which also comes with a deep black bezel. Samsung are also releasing this new design for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini which offers great hardware on a smaller device for those with small hands or pockets.

The internals and innards of the phones however remain unchanged. So for those who already own the Samsung Galaxy S4 or S4 Mini there’s little reason to upgrade unless you’ve got enough money to make the purchase purely for style reasons. It’s likely that you’ll be able to get hold of the backplate relatively cheaply shortly after the phone launches, as inevitably some will appear on eBay as users switch out black plates or destroy the rest of their phones.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with an amazing Full HD 1080p screen which stretches five inches diagonally. The phone has awesome power behind it using a top of the range Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor running at 1.9 GHz, alongside 2 GB of RAM. There’s 16 GB of on board storage, which is a great place to put the photos you take with the awesome 13 megapixel camera. It isn’t hard to see why this was the best selling Android phone last year, and it’s sure to remain one of the bestselling phones even after the launch of the S5, just as the Samsung Galaxy S3 stayed popular long after the S4 arrived on shelves.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini meanwhiles doesn’t quite pack the same punch as the Samsung Galaxy S4, but still offers a great all round handset. It has a slightly lower power processor – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 which runs at 1.7 GHz, and slightly less RAM at 1.5 GB. This however is still fast enough for almost any task, and the other specs are also decent with 8 GB of internal storage and an eight megapixel main camera.

These phones aren’t yet on the shelves, and we can’t yet reveal when they will be – although it’s already been revealed that in Russia they will be launching next month. We remain hopeful that a similar launch date will come to the UK for these great looking models of the ever popular handsets from Samsung.
